Just before 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 24, Baltimore City Fire Dept. struck box 8-8 reporting a church fire at Baker St and Fulton Ave. BCFD Medic 21 was first arriving and reported heavy fire & smoke showing from a 2 story building, the Gateway Church of Christ. A 2nd alarm was quickly struck, followed by a 3rd alarm. Approximately 90 firefighters were on the scene. Command ordered an exterior attack because of the potential of a roof collapse, and some firefighters attacked the fire with handlines from the roofs of neighboring structures. The building dates back to about 1915 and was formerly a theater in its heyday.
